Interesting viewpoint to the super significant capital of old Spanish empire, which changed the Americas during its 300 year rule. The legacy of the past is still visible here – and not just Mexico but in the North too, from Monterey to Texas, California and Utah. To exaggerate a little, the food, the people – and the language many speak – didn’t change that much from California or Southern Texas. It’s almost a common cultural zone, with its regional differences. In a sense America is not changing with the strong influx of “Latinos” and Mexicanos to the Southern parts of USA, but getting back to it’s pre-independence roots. It has been a fascinating “language bath” to try to manage with beginner’s Spanish, but also witness a society in motion and movement. Mexico feels more like China, or Southeastern Asia – or İstanbul – than Europe. A fast developing nation and hub, which is vibrant and positively “chaotic” at times. The food is excellent, people are friendly and tolerant – and much history to witness. It’s Second biggest metropolis in whole Americas – after Sao Paolo – and bigger than New York or Californian hubs.
We have enjoyed our visit, much culture, arts, history. Also a visit to the church, and witnessing how people try to manage in their lives coming with different backgrounds have opened our eyes. Funnily, we have felt much more safe here than in San Francisco or Houston, when walking in the streets. Still you have to keep your eyes open and be aware.
A few days here in Mexico – then back to US.
These reports are wonderful and so lively. Thank you Lauri and family.❣️
