Family (and friends)
Where is your home? Who are you living with? Who are your closest friends? Who’s your love? How do you raise your children?
I realize, I need a family. I need a home. I’m 31 soon and I don’t have a home. Isn’t that tragic. “Your home is where you go.” Yes, but we also need something that lasts. Behind many succesful entrepreneurs, politicians, diplomats, peasants, are often (always) a woman. And family. Who’s backing you up?
I’m backed by my community. That’s all. People come and go. Who stays there? Your love, your family. That stays. Cherish and respect that.
This can be viewed also as your broader family, parents, cousins, closest dear friends. Cherish that too.
Work
You get your salary – economic stability, which much enables family, hobbies, health. That’s why it’s crucially important. Especially in societies where you need to earn a lot of things through money, such as our capitalist society, which we live in. Want it or not, that’s how it is. It also can be positive thing that enables a lot.
But you also need to enjoy your work. Best is if you can love what you do. “I love this shit”, is a phrase of many successful entrepreneurs. When you love your work, you get energy, your health is better, it reflects your family, you have time for yourself, your hobbies. It is key essential in having a balanced life.
Work is the key for your balance. It enables you to materially finance your life – and at best inspires and supports other important elements of life.
Obs. I think money is not the greatest attribute for great work. I would say the best attribute is to look at how much you feel freedom in your work. Is it 100% the work you would like to do in your dreams? Is it 80% of that? That’s already good. Would you do this, if they didn’t pay you at all? That’s a great question. If yes, then it’s 100%. If you do it out of money, you’re a slave. 0-10% willingness means slavery. Everything is besides those. Great money liberates you to invest more in your family, hobbies, leisure.
So how to get the best possible reward in the optimal support for your life balance?
That’s important.
Economy
This is crucially important. Economy needs to be in order. “Earn 20% more than you spend.” (J. Gidomer.) That’s a great example. That’s my goal too. I broke my economy pretty much by the late spring decision to go to China. I got off the safe cycle that enabled my growth. I risked a lot. But I also created and achieved a lot of potential that is very valuable in the future – and I was doing something I love. So it was a great investment. But the price was high. Now it’s time to restore also the economy.
I have debt. That’ s not a big secret. Besides the low-interest student loan, I was debt free on Spring. Now I’m almost broke.
Once again: the responsibility is mine. I made an investment that I almost couldn’t afford.
Next year I’ll be much wiser.
Health
Family and health are most important things in life, say many. Sometimes we forgt this almost an obvious aspect of life. But your physical, mental and spiritual health is all that matters. If your body cracks, that’s it. If your mind cracks, that’s it too. And if you lose your spirit, there’s nothing that can take you up.
Exercise your body, your mind – and your spirit. Weekly, 2-3 times, and you’ll be okay. Everyone have their own balance, but if something’s not working, have a look on the pillars that build your health, your body, mind and spirit. They are also consisted in cooperation with your environment, so choose that, and the people you live with well, and share love and energy with each another.
Own hobbies
This is an area that is something fully your own. For me this is two things that are very important:
Sport and music, most preferably football and piano (or guitar). If I can play these regularly, I’m okay, I’m happy.
These may usually not directly influence your economy, work or family (unless done with them), but these keep yourself on the positive and safe side, which enables you to do your work, earn your money and have energy for your family. Most importantly it keeps your health, physical, mental, even spiritual in order.
I’ve realized, wherever I live, let It be Ireland, Africa or China, I’m happy if I play both football and piano 2-3 times a week for an hour or more. It’s pretty simple.
If your work is not too hectic, you have time for these. If your economy allows you to, it’s okay. If your family supports your hobbies, it’s cool. If you’re not good condition, you can do them.
Spiritual
This is an additional element, that I believe everyone should have. But many consider this not important. For some people it’s irrelevant. I guess it’s due to the bad reputation of religions in some places and in the minds of some people. Spirituality though doesn’t have to be religious. But I believe that a healthy and open relationship with heaven (or “God”) is crucial to any balanced life. I’ve discovered and experienced that on my own many times – in my relationships, work, economy, hobbies and health.
This is an area that many of us can most develop. By developing this you can see amazing improvement in all areas of your life. I highly recommend. Go to a Buddhist monastery for a week, discuss with an Imam a few times, visit your Sunday church a few times, read any religious holy book for 2 days, start yoga and get into its philosophy, read classical epic literature such as Victor Hugo, Aristotle, Kant, Camus, Confucius or Laozi. Or go walking the camino de Santiago de Compostela, climb and live on a mountain for a week, pick mushrooms and blueberries on your summer cottage for one week, whichever gets you closer to the heaven and nature.
These things enable you to unleash the heavenly powers behind you. It’s also ethically crucially important to be well grounded and serve “God” wherever you go. People will sense and feel that you’re doing good. A work of the devil or satan cannot get you very far, as God will always prevail in the end and support you most.
